I Was really moved by the Article published on “Readers Digest” - How honest are we.
Its an article on survey carried out by readers digest team to know if generation of today are honest or not.
They purchased 960 medium range mobile phones and left it at different places in India and abroad and they got amazing results. They left 30 phones in Mumbai and got 26 back. They left the phone in a busy place and then would ring the phone. They kept an eye on the phone and the person who picked it. When any one found the phone ringing they would either pick up the call or switch off the phone and steal it. The person who had no bad intentions would pick up the phone and meet readers digest team at the place where they called but that person was unaware of the survey
Its criticized that youngsters are more prone to theft than elders but this survey showed youngsters are more honest than elders.
Similar surveys were carried in various places in India and the results were good. Two friends found a phone ringing and when they went there to pick up the phone. Some body stole it in front of them. They got hold of the person who had stolen the phone and received the call. They returned the phone to readers digest team.
Surveys were also carried overseas and the results for few countries were not good. In UK the results were not good. Many phones were stolen and very few returned back.
Though we all criticize india but this is the place where we find honesty, love and responsibility among people. We all run after foreign countries like UK and USA for higher studies and we proudly say that the study environment there is good and people are also good. Its when we move out, see the place and meet the people then we realize india is better.
The article is really eye opening.
